This page will give you informaiton you need to help you understand why the generic computer is a best buy.
When you go to buy a computer the most critical component is the Motherboard. Every thing on your computer connects to the motherboard. If you buy a computer using Original Equipment Manufacturer Software, and you want to change the motherboard, by law you will have to by new OEM Software for your computer. If you buy a computer with the latest motherboard installed in it, you can purchase less expensive processors and memory, and upgrade them later. This can save you a sizable amount of money off of your original costs.
For example if you were to buy a motherboard that has the highest megahertz bus speed, fastest AGP slot, latest input output for your hard disk drive, and the fastest built in Local Area Network Adapter, and can handle a Central Processing Unit that is the greatest available speed at the time you buy it, but were to put in a slower CPU and a minimum amount of memory, you will have a computer that will be more affordable, work with all of your applications now, and be highly upgradable.
Here are some more reasons why a generic computer can be a better buy.
1. The Generic Computer is made up of Off the Shelf Components, or components that can be purchased anywhere, that sells computer parts.
2. The Generic Computer has a case that should be easily upgradable, and should be a neutral color, usually black or beige. You should be able to install most of the widely available motherboards into this type of case without modifications.
3. A computer can last 10 years, so if one of your parts breaks between that time, you won't have to buy from the computers manufacturer. You should be able to buy it off of the shelf and have anybody put it in.
4. A CD Burner or CD Rom off of the shelf should match the color of the case easily.
5. Unless it has the fastest CPU and Most Memory it is capable of handling at the time it is built, it will be easily upgradable.
6. The Generic Computer will come with a manual for the specific motherboard that is installed in the computer. This will help you with understanding what kind of memory, what CPU you can use, and how fast it can be.
7. It will come with an Operating System Disk, and disks for any other pre-installed software. This is a very useful matter, because the software disks have programs on them to help you fix your computer.
A. Some name brand computers deliver their products with restore disks, and non specific manuals. They buy licenses for the software, and make machines in multiple numbers. By buying licenses and not CD's they save much money. Note: some proprietary systems come with the OS disks and software disks, if you buy from them, ask them if the disks are manufacturer disks or restore disks.
B. The manuals that name brand companies provide are produced for multiple systems. These manuals do not give specific information about just one system or the motherboard that a technician needs in order to upgrade the machine.
Generic Computers are built by system builders who can be found in the Yellow Pages of your local phonebook or the business directory of your local newspaper.
